Mr Larry Summers, President Barack Obama’s closest economic aide, said that although there are “still substantial downdrafts” to the economy, he is “reasonably confident” that “the sense of a ball falling off the table” will come to an end within months.
“We will no longer have that sense of free-fall,” he added, saying his aim is to make sure the downturn is not an “historic event.”
